March marks my initiation to the best new club of fashionable ladies around, StitchFix. Like other membership shopping sites - Birchbox / Just Fabulous / Trunk Club - sign up for their beta now and you too can pay a modest, $20 membership fee and the fix fairies mail you a little present once a month. Actually, a big present: 5 fashion forward pieces to spice up any ensemble.
Shall we recap?
It was March 1st. I was channeling Ursela Merkel all over again (painful memory for anyone in the Orlando area and with any appreciation for proper pitch). I practically jumped when the doorman stepped right into my trap and inquired “what’s in the box?”
As I took in a deep breath to prep for what was going to be an eloquent and persuasive presentation of StitchFix, when my roommate aka killer of dreams definitively stated, “clothes” and ushered me out of the lobby. For the best. He got his punishment as he was forced to watch me parade around outfits paired with my new finds and take pictures. Justice is a vengeful mistress.

The treat! Comes with an ultra convenient mail return bag… wish Gilt was this cool.
Visually the moment I saw this I was smiling. Mary (my stylist, yep — thought it would be at least 10 years until I had one!) must have known that as a Florida girl, I’m drawn to anything in Gator colors. Serendipity, is that you?
Thank goodness for the fashion flash card though — I usually only wear structured tops and would have completely missed out on this cute top w/o some guidance.
Unfortunately due to fit, some pieces had to go back :/ It was actually perfect. I didn’t feel like I OD’d on my first Fix and hopefully Mary is keeping track of what I do and don’t buy, so she’ll know I’m ready for another cute Blazer next month… and that I’m really an XS on top. Plus, I’m an obsessive browser of order history… weird i know! but I like to make sure I’m not buying too much of one category (cough:: tees, black blazers, jeans:: cough))
By far the most fashion forward outfit I’ve worn in a while :)

Why was I so excited? New clothes are always exciting. But!! I reveled in the opportunity to step out of my normal style. I’ve come to think I do jeans, t-shirt, blazer pretty well. I also think I’m really funny and that my singing brings joy to millions (all contrarian opinions are unwelcomed).
Seriously though, I wore skirts (albeit, long ones that covered my Irish potato-farmer legs)! I pulled out pieces of my wardrobe that looked too tired with my standard fare, but really were sexy with new pairings.
As trite as it may seem - style is driven by attitude. Adding a fresh spin on what already comes naturally to you is exactly what makes you special. Start with what makes you comfortable and then push it, because it’s only beyond your standard experience do you find true inspiration. Something the team at StitchFix has no shortage of… Thanks, guys!
